Project Overview
Lidl Swords involved the construction of a new concept Lidl “Undercroft” retail store. This was a brand-new concept for Lidl and it was the first of its kind to be built in Ireland. The project was meticulously programmed by Mc Callion Group so that it could be fully completed in just 25 weeks. The project was actually completed one week ahead of programme for the client. The contract value was seven million euro. The works consisted of the demolition of four large houses, outbuildings, sheds, walls and the removal of 10,000m3 of inert soil from site. When the demolition works was completed, Mc Callion Group commenced the construction of a three tier Lidl Undercroft retail store. The ground floor housed a carpark, control rooms, a goods and customer elevator, three stairwells, a double carriage travelator and an entrance lobby. From the entrance lobby, customers can travel to the first floor by a choice of a travelator, elevator or stairwells. The main shop floor is located on the first floor along with a bakery, freezers, a warehouse and welfare facilities for both the staff and customers. Further plantrooms are located on the second floor. The external works included all groundworks, pipework and utility installation, kerbing, tarmacing, line-marking and fencing. The store opened in October 2016 and it is now a flagship store for Lidl Ireland. The store boasts of a new, higher specification that Lidl Ireland has introduced for all stores going forward.
